Power curve on twins which single pipes are typically close to the twin pipes up to a point at which singles start to nose over and twins keep going onwards and upwards. On a twin, there's less interference, but there's still some loss of pulse (wave) energy because the pipe splits in two and that cuts the energy by half I think. Gas velocity stays the same and so does speed of sound and therefore the wave speed, but energy (wave amplitude) drops I think. With 3 pipes at low revs things are fine but up closer to peak, the waves start to arrive in one of the other cylinders at the wrong times and things get more complicated. One issue that remains is how to get a collector that doesn't work like a 4 stroke collector. On a four stroke it is supposed to be the change in section that creates the wave action. In our two strokes we have all sorts of cones to do that and a step at a collector complicates things. With longer tapered headers it's possible that the header will help to smooth out the waves somewhat. Jollymoto make a very long 3 into 1 system with what appear to be long tapered headers and that company knows how to make great pipes. I have not seen a dyno chart for that pipe though. All the other old school three into ones just dump the headers into a large collector followed by a long fat tube and that offers no waves after the collector. One might hypothesize that the collector creates a strong wave at one RPM and if the headers are long enough, that rpm will be low. If that's actually how they work, then they are just a muffler after the pipes dump into a large volume tube. No wave action other than the collector would explain the lack of top end on those old pipes. I'd love to see some of the old three into one systems tested back to back on a dyno to see what they actually do. So far I have only tested one 3 into 1 pipe and it was a little weak all the way through and strangled the top end. I should really design a stinger for it to see if it's the baffle that strangles it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJNrVqKLYRASounded good though... The PO claimed that it made the same performance as stock but sounded better and made the bike feel lighter. If it saved say 28 pounds and lost say 4hp, that would be spot on at the old 7pounds=1hp rule of thumb. And since he never rode it balls to the wall, he was not aware of what difference if any there was at the top end. I'll be even more interested to see how well this pipe that Don't working on turns out. It's ambitious and that's always a good thing.

It does sound nice! That phat trakka of your's is a kewl looking bike!!! Here's a video of Don riding my bike with a faux 3 into 1... Warning, Tnut had issues with my braking system and expressed his concerns at the end of the video. ;D ;D ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoqgP4vTAYk&feature=related

You must be making reference to Don's surprise 3rd gear lofting of the front wheel? Yeah, I've experienced the wiggle as well... Kind of like the way it makes my belly feel when that happens though. ;D Just stay on the throttle, she'll straighten out

I wish I still had my h1 3 into 1 header, no pipe on it, fuker at the machine shop that was building me cones left it out and was crushed by a forklift

Maybe it's that custom silencer (that doesn't silence) that makes all the power! Wonder where you'd get something like that...... Still sounds great. Nice wheelie Don.

Hey don, just thinking out loud here...
What if at your collector, the headers had an almost twist to them, to help swirl the gasses and that might help with low and top end? This is coming from an unexperianced idiot though......

Some kind of spring-loaded exhaust flapper/valve that allows pressure to build in the header pipe?

That pipe is gonna look so cool. I find myself checking back regularly to see progress. Good work
