You're probably right North, that would be the smart thing to do. But I've never been accused of being smart. ;D I've already spent too much money on this bike so for now I'm just going to get these pipes into a usable state. Then at least I can sell them and use the money as partial payment for a set of WTF pipes. There's an incredible amount of carbon in these pipes. After a little work with a scraper. I've got all 3 cut apart now and got the baffles all opened up. I'll get all the dents and holes fixed and clean them up and weld them back together. That will be cheap and we'll see how it looks and runs.

Looking good John... and solid mount motors aren't bad until about 3 hours of riding and then your nether regions don't stop tingling for an hour afterwards ;D

I read a post from RB quite a while back, regarding his method of removing carbon build up from the inside of pipes. Pour gasoline into the pipe & let it run all the way through. Stand the pipe on end, header down & support it so it will stand up on its own. VERY CAREFULLY!! light the gasoline. The gas, now soaked into the carbon will ignite & in turn ignite the carbon. The pipe acts like a chimney & draws air in through the bottom, thus burning all the carbon out. Things to remember. It's dangerous.. It will destroy any finish on the pipes, including chrome. It stinks.
SoupD.

That does sound dangerous. The Tiger torch method worked great. I rented it for $10 for the day. It's rated at 500,000 BTU's and is fueled by a normal 20lb propane tank. I set the pipes on my outdoor fireplace metal grate and wired them in place so they wouldn't roll off onto the grass. I directed the torch into each end of the pipe and very shortly the carbon was on fire. I also concentrated on the internal baffle area of these pipes from the outside to make sure all the carbon was burned. All that was left was some ash. I also used the heat to burn all the old paint off the outside of the pipes as there was about 3 layers of it. It created quite a bit of smoke but nobody called the fire department.

I've never done this myself but I've read it works well... Heat up the pipe starting at the header using a Oxy/aceytlene torch, as soon as it starts to burn, shut off the torch and turn only the oxygen back on, leaving the tip pointing in the stinger end... The carbon is the fuel and the oxygen is the oxidant. I've heard you can see the ring of fire travel through the pipe to the end...

Did you at least knock out the blocker plate in the internal baffle? If not you need to. And actually do everyone a favor, and when you do get your WTF's take the hit and crush the Wirges, they do not need to be around to be used.

Yes I did remove the block off plates, if you look 1 page back you'll see I drilled them out with a 1" bit. I'll see how they work on this bike before I condemm them to the crusher.
