I mocked up the left cylinder last night to check interference between the carb and petcock… I figured it was going to be close but I didn’t expect ¾” interference! Dang!!!
Looks like I need to figure out a different petcock arrangement. My first thought is to make a custom spool valve (I’d like to retain a reserve since I tend to use it like every tank full…lol Do you guys have any thoughts?

What about an angled manifold plate?
Not sure how that would work with the reed kit you have or how much clearance you have on the bottom side of the carbs. Are the big carbs you have taller then the stock 500 carbs?
We need pics! Well, we mostly want to see it!!

I don't want to change the angle of the manifolds and Yes the carbs are much bigger then the stockers... I might have to run the left and right throttle cables on the outside of the tank...lol The carbs stick out about flush with the outside of the side covers... So much for the sleeper eh ;D I'll take pictures tonight That's a good idea Lou, I never thought of just moving the petcock location on the tank... That actually makes allot of sense

Well, relocating the petcock isn't an option... No good place to do that. I think what I'll do in the short term is rig up a remote valve. I still need a reserve though... maybe in a pinch, I could leave a bladder inside the tank, it's be a PITA but better then pushing... Here are the cases blasted, hand rubbed with scotch bright, washed and ready to go...

BTW, about 3 fingers between the carb bell and the frame rail... looks like chopped down UNI's is the only way to go.

Yeah, I thought of that Lou, but it wouldn't solve the reserve tank issue...

Hey Andrew, A quote from the resource site regarding the 400/500 conversion you may have missed:
"Petcock- The petcock will hit the top of the carb without modification. By turning the petcock about 15 deg and raising the rear of the tank about 1/4" I gained just enough clearance to work. I added a thickness of rubber over the rear tank mount. It may be that the threaded stem on the tank could be bent at an angle to achieve clearance. I didn't try it."
