I’ve had this H1 since back in the ‘80’s. It’s one of two different H1s that were anonymously dropped off where I lived at the time. This one was complete but not running, the other was just a rolling chassis (no engine or body work). I was terrorizing myself and, presumably, the neighborhood on my H1A in those days and my place seemed to be the depository for dead or unwanted H1s.
I always thought the bodyset had such great patina that I couldn’t ever paint it. My last two projects have been i) a full restoration of a ‘72 H2, and ii) a resto-lite ‘71 H1 with frame and bodyset powdered & painted then done up with all my best parts. After those two I felt ready for something involving a bit less work so a Ratbike seemed like the perfect idea.
I don’t currently have a photo hosting site in use but will get on that shortly (I know, I know: this thread is useless without photos…).
Project is only recently begun but the general idea is to use all my worst parts on it BUT the engine is being rebuilt (without cleaning or blasting) and everything mechanical will be refreshed. The end game is to have a dirty old, beat-up looking sleeper. Things are already progressing rapidly with no cleaning, bead blasting, powder coating or paint.
Stay tuned…

Sounds like any of my projects Neil.
Good to hear from you. I'm working on a sleeper too as we speak.

Long live the rat rod! I use the tapatalk smartphone app, less than $5 to buy with no monthly fees. They must host directly? I can insert pictures directly from my phone.

Sorry guys, I kinda fumbled getting this thread going and now I find myself in Mexico for a couple weeks (with no garage). I’ll rev it up once I’m back…
