My KH has its original exhaust. The left side has some chrome discoloration (some sort of chemical drips), and the right side has some decent road rash from being laid down in the past (presumably). There is a tiny bit of surface rust in some fairly inconspicuous places, but overall the rust is not a big issue for me.
There is a fellow (perhaps a member here) selling a set of Bassani exhaust for $300. They are in fair condition, could definitely use paint (I'd use some sort of high heat flat black paint) and has some minor dents in the bottom.
I don't want to throw money away, and just looking for opinions on what others would do.

I prefer the sound of chambers over the stock pipes myself, that alone would be enough for me to make the swap. $300 for a half decent set is a good deal imo. On the other hand, if you don't care so much about sound and high rpm performance, a bit of elbow grease on the stock pipes would be the way of the purist and likely more value if you ended up selling the bike.

Thanks walms.
I might give them a try anyway I guess. Perhaps I could resell them. Do you think even with some dents on my the bottom they're worth $300. Like I said, fair condition, not horrible

Unless completely battered, that is a good price. Plus, they are good pipes. Don't expect any input from Bassani as far as tuning/jetting goes though. They never even answered me regarding pipes on an Rd I had with their pipes.

Life is tough. it's even tougher when you're stupid.
I'm in a halfway house on a one way street
And I'm a quarter past live or die
Well, if I buy another bike, that is

Yeah, that was my second thought, how much time do I want to spend tuning!
Tuning is not a problem for a stock bike. You usually just go up two main jet sizes and bobs your uncle. Don’t let the stock pipes go though. In the end when your ready to pass it on, a stock bike will bring more money.

So I found a set of Wirges in nice condition (almost NOS). They are $700.
I have read that some wirges are better than others?

Wirges only make noise on a 500. No performance improvment. You can take them and cut the belly section down to 7 inches and knock out the internal baffle at the rear and they will make better power.

For me, as embarrassed I am to admit, it has more to do with aesthetics. My bike is really clean, but the exhaust looks horrible and ruins the appearance entirely.

Brad
Do you think if i installed the Wirges (factory 500 unmodified) an 80 main would be enough? Stock pilot is 25 - would 30 be enough?
Would it be worth putting unifilters on as well with the wirges? If so, what then would be good for main and pilot?
