So as most of you are now aware we've picked up another H2 last weekend. The reason I say "we" is because like the 400 I built this bike belongs to my girlfriend who may be the biggest enabler of my triple addiction...
She's (the bike..not Rachel) not too pretty but sure leaves an impression on you. It's a bit like a Picasso.. At 1st you're a little confused and taken back but eventually you slowly start to see the beauty in it. Or at least that's what I tell myself.
The bike is pretty well complete but does have it's fair share of things to fix and replace over the project. (Not including the paint)
The engine apparently has about 50miles on it since it's last rebuild and the tank is MINT on the inside. The frame does have some braces welded in but the guy was smart enough to make it look factory with tubing instead of big gussets welded in every corner of the frame.
Last night I pulled the carbs and checked the cases for any oil that may have leaked out of the injection lines. 2 cylinders were completely dry and 1 had a VERY tiny bit in the bottom but nothing to be concerned with. I checked the bike for spark and sure enough all 3 plugs had great spark. Also examined the pistons with my bore scope and discovered that it had standard bore pistons too which I feel is always a good sign.
I poured some gas into the tank and sprayed a little extra "encouragement" down the cylinders and it fired right up! I was able to keep it running too with the throttle so I knew it wasn't just the little spray of brake cleaner that I used.

I think I have a really good tank, if you would like to trade, I kind of adore that tank 😍

Clean it up and keep it as is. Its too cool to loose the vibe. I know what you mean but the plan is to enjoy it a bit then sell so the original blue helps with that aspect of things. If it were going to be a permanent piece in the family instead of a "Foster child" I would do something more custom.

Been working on this H2 some more.
I put gas through the bike and was able to get it to fire. Right away some of the carbs started to over flow and I was has having issues with getting all 3 cylinders to fire. I pulled the carbs, tore them all down and gave them a really good cleaning. The Enricher plugs were stuck so once I removed them with a heat gun I cleaned out the both the bores and the plungers.
I lubed up and re-routed all the cables, put everything back together and now she runs like a champ!!
JUST ONE problem though.. on every test ride at the exact same spot (approx 1km down the road) the bike begins to bog down on me. I checked all the cylinder temps and everything is the same. I'm able to keep it running on idle for about a min then I can cary on my way and sure enough as soon as I pull back into the driveway it bogs down again. My theory is that it's not getting enough fuel from the petcock and that 1km mark is exactly where the bowl run dry until I let it sit at idle and they have a chance to fill up again.
Thoughts?

So after getting the bike to run / idle I kept running into a fuel starvation problem while riding. It was always at the exact same spot about 1km from my house. I 1st swapped out different petcocks to see if maybe it was a fuel delivery problem...no luck. After removing the carbs again the LH carb body broke when I accidentally over torqued the enricher cable... DOH!!
Then it hit me... the bikes got completely stock jetting with pod filters..that plus the cold weather might just explain it..
I got my new carb body in and slapped it together. In doing so I also swapped out the stock 97.5 mains with a 102.5 and set all the float heights to 24mm (They were WAYYY off). A couple kicks and the bike roared back to life.
On previous test rides the bike was never running QUITE right so a shot of gas in 1st gear really wasn't all that exciting... not this time! On my short test ride I noticed the front end kept getting very light on acceleration. In one small bend I was leaning the bike in and nailed it out of the corner, the front end came up about 2 feet and slammed down while in the lean causing a bit of a wobble.. I rode it out no problem and began to laugh hysterically. What a ride!!
I can now see how they got the name "The Widowmaker" ...good thing I'm not married
Restoration should begin next week!

With the great weather we had yesterday I thought it would be a great opportunity to take Rachel's H2 out for a final ride before starting the restoration next week. The sun / fall colours were perfect so I decided to whip up a little spontaneous video of the ride.

I dabbled in selling the "Mint Green mean Machine" but after dealing with a couple tire kickers I've officially started tearing it down.
This still remains my favorite detail on the bike.
One thing is for sure..this guy SURE LOVED TEAL!!

Yeah, that has late 80’s early 90’s written all over that paint job. I gave up my subscription to HotRod magazine after the Miami Vice era of painting stuff goofy colours. I do like the widow maker decal tho! 😎

I do like the widow maker decal tho! 😎 Yeah, he said it was done in the early 90s. Looking back the previous owner said it was "the cool thing to do back then, but would make it original again now." One cool thing though is that he hand painted all of those graphics. I'd love to get that made in a decal though to put back on the bike.
