i built this bike about 20 years ago. first things first i bought a 72 h2 out of quebec while on vacation in ottawa and dragged it back to the east coast. next i was up at woodys cycle in perth and he had a tracy body which i procured. i thought it was for a h2. i was wrong it was for a h1. next a friend of mine in dartmouth had 2 frames sitting behind his shop one was a 71 h1 with split open engine cradle from sitting in water and freezing and the other was a h2 frame that was for drag racing. i traded my good h2 frame for the junk ones and proceded to build the deuce from sourced parts. the front end is kz 1000 laced with a 18" rim and drilled disc and the rear is a h2 laced onto a 4" wide with a bill wirge swing arm. i mated the h2 engine cradle to the h1 frame and braced it across the back with a tire four way. the cambers are custom made with denco stingers and the motor is far from stock. i removed the front pegs and put the contols on the rear. i road it that way for about 2 years then i had a leak in the gas tank from the coil mounts rubbing on the underside. I cut out the tank and a friend sold me a h1 tank which i glassed in but i didn't like because it's from a 69/70 and the body lines dont line up. im in the process of dragging it out of storage and trying to locate a 71/72 h1 tank. i had the listing on kijiji and a fellow recommended that i join this community. i've done some reading, seems like a nice forum. never knew about it or i would have been here years ago. i call the bike the deuce because it has a h2 drivetrain but is registered as a h1. my other bikes i have are all z1's steve

i've detached the early h1 tank and i've been on the search for a 71/72 h1 tank because i think it would be the easiest and cleanest mod. i've been open to other tanks. a spare one off my z1 confirmed i need a narrow tank. a early s1 or s2 tank have the look plus they are set up with the right petcock. i havent been open to later h1 tanks because they look longer but never say never. i was at cycle salvage in peterborough last week and they have some kh400 tanks that might work. i'm gonna have to throw the bike in the box of the truck and bring it with me to confirm if that an options.

if the tank is usable i'm open to suggestion. thinkin that would fit the body lines.
i got a pm for the tank i'm looking for but this one is a close second.

did the trade. after i put the tank on i noticed on full turns that the clip-on handlebars were gonna dent the tank so i had to think on this for awhile. options were. find a shorter tank, live with it or get rid of the clip-ons. finally i switched the tomaselli clip-on handlebars and headlight brackets over to my z1 and migrated the stock headlight brackets to the h1. the headlight brackets are 1 inch shorter. thanxs god they aren't mint so i didn't mind running them through the chop saw. then i had to find some h2 handlebar mounts since my triple tree is off a 72 h2. i search the net, no luck, finally went through some old boxes of stuff from 20 years of hoarding and found the original set for that triple tree. i had a nice set of clubmans on the z1 but, i think they will work well on the h1. tonite i went through the hoard and found a z1 headlight bucket with halogen bulb and a front master cylinder.

The bars didn't hit on the early tank? The dimensions look the same up front on the two tanks.

i never ran the other tank with those bars. im trying not to screw up so i've been checking everything multiple times and i noticed on full lock to lock they touched the tank. probally not enough to dent but enough that i'm not comfortable with it. next on the list is a set of shorty signal light stems. so i'll be up to peterborough tomorrow to order a set. i also noticed i'm missing the rubber stopper near the top of the headlight shell. hope they can still get them.

the on going saga continues. i completely dismantled the bike to get the frame powder coated. i've noticed that the temp rear inner fender that i used is a piece of crap therefore i'm on the hunt for an original style plus bracketry. the reason ive been taking so long on the bike is i was playing the cancer game. the doc said i would die an old man but i reminded him i'm already old. i'll put a request in the buy and trade forum.

spent 2 days on the frame cleaning welds, relocating rear tracy body mount. rear signal light mount. drilled out what remained of front gas tank mounts, still gonna make some. made new coil mounts and welded in. welded in bracket for rear taillight switch and sectioned 2 princess auto trailer fender i had in the attic of the shop into a nice steel rear inner fender. gonna finish welding up the rear inner fender tomorrow but did notice stuff as i was dismantling the bike. one was the tabs under the seat for the battery box had to be lengthen to get the cdi ignition unit to hang lower and not rub on the under side of the seat. lengthen it by 3/4 of an inch so im not nervous about that any more. other thing i noticed is that my chamber are custom / home made and i'm gonna look for some junk expansion chamber to donate their head pipe and collars to update these.
