Good idea, but I think it's going to be hard to street able, those engines are way too peaky for the street, and I think you will have a hard time gearing it to not wheelie every where and not foul plugs...
We have talked about it a lot at work, since we have 3 CBR 125s that need plastic work, and a couple blown up 2001/2005 CR250 engines,
But, between the two bike techs, they can't justify doing it as they don't think it would be streetable enough to warrant the job

PM me what do you want for the 2001 motor, I might be interested. I'm not looking for practical.  other than I already have a roller. Worst case scenario it will be a backup bike for trackdays |

I like it! A cr250 Definitly isnt too peaky. You want peaky.... Ride my Mach chicken... No resemblance in power curve. My only concern with that combo might be a cramped small sportbike stature?

If you could find a late model ktm300 with electric start you'd have a good street motor. Those things have good torque but no hit what so ever. Very streetable

Hey! Hey you, Walms! You already have a one lung 2-stroke street bike project! Finish it! I actually have 3 projects, well the parts for 3..., a 400 triple, G3 and this CBR project. I'm going to put a push on them this winter. The only thing I need for the G3 is a piston, Wiseco tells me that the late model KE pistons are not compatible with the older cylinders though. I suspect it's the rings because of the nikasyl plating. I prefer forged. Maybe I can retrofit different rings? |

Very streetable I think any 250 motor would be nice in that frame. My brother owned a 78 Suzuki TS250, it was a an awesome motor! It's one of those projects that will get the motor that falls into my lap. LC would be nice for the modern frame though. |

eBay is full of G3SS pistons at good prices. Are they not really good for a G3SS?

I have the 5 port 100cc top end, it's identical to the late model KE except no bore plating.
The older style G3 was 3 port, a different animal and can only use OEM cast pistons.

Once I have a roller together, I'll put the heat on! Off topic but we should collaborate on a inertia dyno for the 100cc or smaller engines. It would be a great tool for developing porting and chambers. Lots of KE100's out there from 1982-2001. They drop right into a G3 too... I might make a stock looking sleeper. I have the parts for that too. Lol love planning for winter! |
