What size is the rear tire? 18" wheel, looks to be stockish size, I'll read off the size tonight.
How much offset on the front sprocket? I measured that the centre of the chain on the sprocket on the KZ wheel was a little less than 6mm further out than my H1 wheel. I was anticipating the need to mill this material off the hub to compensate. I decided to wait until I got the rear sprocket. To my surprise, the aftermarket sprocket came with an offset on one side. The surface that mounts to the hub is recessed about 4mm on that side, so the sprockets line up almost exactly the same as the stock setup.
And where did you order the sprocket from? I went to the Kawi dealer, Motorsports Pickering, and ordered a replacement sprocket for the KZ650 C models (530 chain, 80mm centre hole, 6 x 10.5mm bolt pattern.) What I got was the JTR488 model sprocket.

Went for a ride on this new setup yesterday. Handling is way better, it just feels a lot tighter. The seat height is probably an inch higher than it was, and I don't get the wavering feeling when going around corners anymore. I'd say it's a worthwhile performance and aesthetic improvement from what I had.

Andrew, Is your bike all done now, or do you still have to finish some stuff? What about the car damage? Fill us in.

Just wondering, I have a 82 kz750 and the wheels are HEAVY! Did you happen to weight the parts first?
I was thinking of going the other way, and put H1 wheels (18" front too) on the KZ..........

They are pretty heavy. With the double disc and rear disk hardware, it most likely weighs more than the stock setup. My motivation was to get the nice mag wheel aesthetic look I liked without pouring out big dough for Lesters, while maintaining the time period somewhat. The bike looks like it could have been built that way originally to a layman. Plus everything says Kawasaki on it!

What about the car damage? I'm still working on it. I missed a beauty set of polished engine covers by 20 minutes on Ebay, got distracted in the last hour, blah blah... My employer will cover me for the damaged parts, just takes a while to get them. The bike is functional, just a little worse for wear.

glad that worked out for you.
Did I not read somewhere that the Lester’s were damn heavy as well...also are you not supposed to get them checked for cracks?

My boy's been helping me in the garage, getting tools, asking questions.... Got the rear brake together, bled, brake light works. The reservoir is hokey, I have to get some tubing and hide it under the seat. Plug and play for ridability only! Temporary! Anyone recognize the clamp? ;D

Had to redo the rear brake arrangement, I wasn't getting much effect with how I had it before. Thanks for Neil for sending me a pic of his setup. I made an aluminum clamp and mounting plate for the master cylinder. I changed it to this position for clearance reasons. Instead of using a tie rod, I used some rectangular stock aluminum to transfer motion from the brake pedal to the master cylinder. The brake pedal shaft is stock, I just tapped a 5/16 thread into the hole where the drum brake rod attaches and put a shoulder bolt in there. Drilled a hole in the aluminum stock and put it together. Works much better now.
