My account of track day:
What a great day! SO cool to legally go fast with no worries about "Johnny Law" taking your license. The event is run nicely, enough rules to prevent mayhem while permitting fun....I did get yelled at for popping a wheelie!
I was a bit disappointed to realize that both Ned and Mitch were faster than me...but I certainly wasn't the slowest out there.
We started the day with two "newbie" laps so we could familiarize ourselves with the track..then they turned us loose. The track was damp and cold with puddles here and there. On the second lap an experienced guy went down in front on me on his 250 Ninja..2 corners later I washed out going into a corner and found myself face down on the track with the 400 lying on my right leg. I didn't enjoy wiping out, but the damage was limited to a bruised ego and a broken signal light. On the same lap an old fella crashed his mint old Velocette ..he left on a stretcher. Once the track dried out, there were no further incidents until late in the day when a sudden shower hit and a pair of guys went down within 10 metres of each other.
I spent most of the day chasing Ned and Mitch...great fun, and don't say it's not a race LOL
Anyway...as some of you know...I was wearing fully armoured race leathers, teflon leather gloves, ballistic riding boots and $700 helmet. I crashed the bike and just kept riding as if nothing ever happened (once the marshall lifted it off me LOL).
So why did I end up in the emergency room for 3 hours on Saturday night? It turns out as I was helping Mitch push his 400 into the van, I smoked my melon on the little steel "U" thing that latches the doors - it was a bloody mess!
Track days are dangerous kids!

9cm laceration...and not much hair to cushion the blow... Ooch, way worse than walking into an eavsetrough while carrying a cooler full of beer. Nice war wound though.

Yup that's a nasty gash alright Ian! Wowsers! I was loading Givr's bike and all I hear is Ned yelling, "Walms, first aid!!!" Those are 2 words I've never heard in the same sentence before!?! Good thing others were there to help, it took me 20 minutes to find my first aid kit! (Sorry Ian)

Haha, that video showed me passing the single lung cafe and the Suzuki 750 water buffalo twice! ( I thought I was being black flagged and let them pass me on the infield) memorable because the kettle was passing the cafe at the same time I was passing the kettle and we did it 2x in a row. The deja vu lap...

He splits his head that bad and yet he didn't even flinch or tend to his wound untill the bike was pushed up and safely on its kickstand!! Top notch man you are Z! And your right it was defiantly racing! Your a hard man to catch! I do believe I passed you twice! The second time I managed to get on the pipe sooner after corner one and took you straightaway! The first time you were a little "pinned down" at the moment

Well that was just a super hoot fun time again . I hope z heals up quick and man is that a nasty gash . That's one reason right there why I never rent a van and I always get a pickup to haul the bike around . Just ask carl (pappagriff) about that center hook for the door on his van ... The new guys looked really good out there and they made it look like they had been there a dozen times before . Ned z and mitch just boogied around the track drying it off for us old timers in meduim . I was so happy to see you guys come in and just be pumped to do it all again next year . The regular guys were just smokin it out there even in the wet . Man is that track a slippy bugger in the wet . I recommend guys to wait it out next time cuz the track is beyond difficult to ride in just after the rain stops . It's not so bad while the rain is falling but no where near as fun as in the dry . Regardless of weather more guys need to come out because it is beyond a blast. Master chef givr did spicy sausages and burgers on the bbq . Thanks givr again . That was freakin spicy awesome !!! Neds super huge tent helped keep us dry mostly accept for penny who got soaked when the wind decided to move the tent around lol . Man was it windy . The wind moved the EX around a few times while riding in a straight line in the rain . Nerve racking to say the least . I parked it after that . The Ex is and will keep being a huge learning curve for me . Four strokes are just weird . Engine breaking ,,, only use the front break ,,, riding so far forward ,,,feels very small between your legs are just a few of the issues I am having with the EX . The other issue were the tires . They are hard as rock and I lost count as to how many times I lost the front and the back and missed shifts to boot lol while fighting to keep it up rite . But I had a lot of fun regardless . It has a rev limiter ? Who new My con does not ... New rubber will be in the works for next year and hopefully a bit of a training course along the way to learn the ins and outs of four strokin . My clutch issue seems to be finally working right on my triple . Mitch had the EX and me on my five and my five smoked the EX in a short little off track race but I think mitch like me had trouble shifting the four stroker . About me going close to the wall lol . Ummm , that's the fast way on the exit of that corner and there is no other way to get a better run at top speed other than doing that safely of course. If I cut it further from the wall , my top speed at the other end is lower than the ton so the wall it is . There is only 8 inches or less of marbles there that I can see so I am clear of that because of the width of the bike and handle bars and my body. When racing your supposed to use all of the track available to you and so I do lol . Last year I went threw the dirt a few times on some exits trying to push the racing line . I enjoyed that immensely but that was on my triple and its a great dirt bike . The EX not so much as your body is so far forward and it does not feel correct just yet . I had little time on the EX as it rained a lot so next time out I can figure the four stroker out and get some good laps in with it . Again what a friggin hoot and a big thankyou goes out to Dave Horvath for renting the track and holding a great event . I think he has taken a shining to us as we come in mass and he see's the passion we have for ringin out our triples . There's talk of making this a 2 day event in May with perhaps a show and shine also and I hope I will be healthy for that weekend . Hopefully it won't interfere with the Tobermory gathering .
