Hi all, new to the board; looks like I'm going to enjoy perusing this place and definitely gain a lot! Anyway, I picked up my project bike Thursday last week. It was a basket case, which is good because it saved me taking it apart... but now I have to put it together. Waiting on my repair manual to arrive so I can do everything right and get it running and such. Compression cold/dry is 105, 105, 110, and wet; 125, 125, 130 so I think it's good; never owned a 2 stroke before. I spent Saturday cleaning, degreasing, sandblasting, priming, painting, straightening, welding... Mostly everything is there, except for the fuel petcock. One side cover was cracked and repaired by a PO, the oil tank cover was pretty rough but I have rebuilt it. The oil tank was also damaged, presumably in the same crash that damaged the cover. I'm not 100% sure that my repair method for the cover will work on the tank so I may have to look for another one. I have set up a gallery with pics of the progress... albertaplating.com/kawi_triple/

Thank you.
I had been looking for a project for a while and this bike came up and had to go quickly, the owner was moving across country and didn't want to take it. I picked it up 1/2 hour before they gave up posession of the property.
I didn't really care what I got for a project, as long as it was between 200cc to 500cc but that it is a kawi triple is a huge ++.

good pics there relik, (is that a beachcombers handle?) Can't go wrong with a triple, or free parts from Brawney!

As for the handle, I was trying to go for ReLiK, the reverse of being KiLeR cause my other bike is a KLR. I am old enough to know who "Relic" is though, but just a few months older than my S2.

I've a couple of Q's about the bike.
Is the front fender supposed to be chrome or were there some painted ones? I'm not doing a concours restoration by any means, I'm just torn between chrome or paint.
Is there an easy way to cross reference parts, like fuel petcock to see what other models it was used on. Will other models such as for an H1/H2 work?
Has anybody ordered a new petcock from Kawasaki, I called and they are on B/O.

H1 have an auto shut off, I know S3's are equipped with a manual off. Not sure about H2's could be the same as H1? You need a fitting on the carb to make it work. Don't know much about the S2, for some reason I think that paint may have been the choice for fender finishes on some models. 72 H1 is the only year paint was applied to the front fender.

'72 S2 had a painted front fender. All S series petcocks will interchange (although different part#s). H series is larger diameter coupling and requires vacuum.

Neat bike. The front end reminds me of a "mini B" in the picture. Painted fender too! Nice. You'll have it ready for the second Annual BBQ next June no doubt? Be cool to see some of the smaller displacement triples "reborn" and on the road.

Kinda glad to hear the fender is supposed to be painted; I guess one of the POs had it chromed. I've worked in a chrome shop for about 16 years and it doesn't really turn me on a whole bunch. Thanks for the info Zambia, that's about half the price of the OEM one.

Piece by piece... Got after the front wheel today; polished the hub and got the spokes ready for chrome. Should have the rim ready for chrome this week if I stay late at work. rims are in good shape, only minor rust in a couple spots. Things to do while WOP (waiting on parts).
