Well boys, starting into the 500 !! I really want to make this bike look so modified and wild looking that people will drive across the globe just to see it in person. I know I have some competition with Bake.. But I will do my best When I first got it from my Dad - who bought from Autofobe Pulled down, cleaned carbs, rebuild carbs, starts and runs! Possible headlights, These ones do NOT work, they are off the plow truck, i just threw them on there to get an idea of how it would look Close up My plan is to run an after market speedo and have it recessed into its own *headlight shell* that will have all the wiring tucked neatly into it. and have the key switch mounted in the shell as well. ( semi stealing ideas from drewski and bake...) Keep checking as I will update every week with new pictures

Ran into a few problems tonight Was working on getting the caliper un stuck when i started to smell fuel It was dripping out of the bottom end, do these motors have a weep hole on the bottom end? I shut the fuel off and threw a bucket under it until i look at it tomorrow night. Going to pull the carbs off again tomorrow night and re check my float heights. At the moment i am up loading a picture of the spark plug that was in it... You guys tell me if you have seen anything like this before... Edit - Drewski, since you aint done your mongrel yet, you should just hand over the pipes... Edit # 2 Check out the plug... whats the problem here It WAS a resistor plug and the knock off cheap ass plug boots that are on it wouldn't accept it.. so the previous owner ground down the 'top hats' (as i call them) to make it fit!

The cases have holes to allow fuel drainage from the carbs. In addition to your float height check, check for sunk floats and worn float valves.

Brand new float valves that pass a pressure check of 7 psi on the mighty vac
All the floats floated in the bucket and when held under no visible air bubbles coming up/when removed and shook could here nothing inside the float itself.

Hmm, if you haven't already got some, NGK LZFH non-resistor plug caps, and a set of NGK B9HS plugs. It's obvious, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Thanks Anthony - I already had the numbers wrote down to do my shopping today. And obvious isn't always obvious!
Debating between the drag bar or the classic broomstick straight bar... Any thoughts? I have both sitting on the shelf, so its not like i will be out any money if I don't like one or the other.
Dumb question, but with a drag bar, is it possible when the ends are pointing down, if I came outta a wheelie for the grips to come off? (Yes I know! Dumb question but I want to know!)

actually champion 77-jc4 are for Johnson outboard motors from 2hp to 9.9 from the late 70's to present.

Regarding straight bars; might not be an issue for you, but if the bar is too straight, I find it's hard on the wrists under braking. Spray paint or hairspray help keep the grips on, but may fail eventually. Wheelies are frowned upon by law enforcement.

I figured the straight bars would be hard on the wrists.. And if the law enforcement can catch me then i guess they can frown upon the wheelies then... TTNut any idea why someone would have jammed those plugs in there? ?

You can use Three Bond for the grips. The same stuff you seal your cases with. I would definitely go with drag bars, Givr is right about a straight flat bar and what it does to your wrists.

Drag bar it is. fortunately i have today off work, so hopefully I will get the bars on, brakes sorted out, float height reset, new plugs boots and have a key switch mounted. I have a nice little side job coming in that will pay for the WTF pipes I am ordering for it, Kind of want the 3 into 1 for this bike...
