If you are looking to improve handling, remember 16 or 17" tires will drop the front a 1" to 1.5", same with the rear, you will be losing valuable ground clearance. That's VERY true!! I'm gonna be battling that issue with the Mongrel!! We'll be mounting the WTF "Crossover Specials" tomorrow, so we'll begin to get a true picture of all that very soon. I'll be sure to pass along our findings!

Adding to the list of possible wheel setup is
Kawasaki EX500 mags - 17 front 17 rear
Ja Moo,
If I ran a smaller set of mags (I.E. these 17 inch ones) if I used a long fork set up then i can re gain that lost clearance. As for the rear, I am not 100% sure on what I will be doing there if I lose clearance..

Is it a reasonable option?

Is it a reasonable option? Oh yes, you just want to keep your rake and trail numbers correct. I personally think triples look "funny" with the little wheels, but that's just me........

The truth is ( ), it all depends on what you intend to do with you bike. If you wanna take it on the track and rip it up, you'll wanna be very careful what wheel/tire set up you use. If you just roll around the neighbourhood, you could get away with "shopping cart wheels" if you're careful! I wouldn't recommend that, but it might be an interesting experiment!! ;D ('Moo might go into "cardiac arrest" though, so don't tell him! ) Any time we deviate from stock you can be reasonably sure there will be a "domino effect" of some kind. Good or bad. It's good that you're asking questions. Many of the choices you're mentioning have been tried. We all won't agree on whether they are "good" or "bad". In the end, you'll have to decide that. ;D

I got a big piece of scrap hard plastic from work today. Got thinking to myself "Self, get the sawzall and start making a solo seat" So I did. Few snap shots, nothing sanded yet, and I think I want to angle the rear a little bit.. not 100% sure yet. Looking at it tonight, I am positive I am just going to keep stock size of rims, but in mag form, just so I don't sink all this time and money into some twitchy front end, handles like a 18 wheeler with a 53' trailer type of bike.

The last thing I want is to build a bike that I hate to drive. Sure they look nice parked at the show and shine, but I aint the type of guy to trailer my bike to a show and shine, I ride it there, and I like to ride hard Are RZ350 wheels 18's? I think I can find a set..

RZ350 wheels are 18". I have them along with the forks and swinger/monoshock on my S1. Of course I can't comment on the handling yet.

Thanks David, Just re read your entire s1 500 thread, your wheels look awesome on it, what year of RZ are they off of? Thanks Curtis, they are from an '88 RZ350. '83-'90 are all interchangeable, but they changed the appearance slightly in '86.

For grips, I usually put some contact cement on the bar and slide the grip on while its still wet... wait a few hrs before twisting and it will hold on just fine.
Personaly Id take a long hard look at the rake and trail numbers before I finalized any wheel size decisions, I put mine more into the sport bike catagorie but dont have those #s available to me righ now nor have I put any seat time on it to comment on its handeling.
