Nice! I saved up and bought one of those brand new when I was 18. I think it cost me $3400 at Cycle World East in Scarborough. Lots of fun and yes, everyone will say the RG500 is better but who really cares. Your RZ500 is a great bike which you'll discover the first time you ride it.
BTW. The 1985-1990 RZ350 upper fairing is the same, more common and way cheaper to buy used. Of course, this will only help if you were planning on repainting it.
If you find your clutch won't free up and needs replacing, I upgraded mine with a Barnett clutch made for the XS1100. It also had an extra plate. They didn't offer one specifically for the RZ500 back then and I knew the big XS shared the same clutch basket. The clutch is a weak point on these and mine was slipping all the way home after one day at the dragstrip.

thanks for the tips reprodecals!! still haven't made the deal on any fairing bits yet, but!! Have a nice clutch lever/perch and a decent left lower pipe to pick up from the same guy I bought the gastank from!! Hopefully today!! And, waiting on a clutch cover and water pump cover gasket for reassembly! Clutch plates are now free!!

had some spare time and decided to try the 2000F VHT Flameproof paint, only had gloss and flat, I chose flat and man oh man is it ever flat!! The key instruction I think everyone "forgets" is a little ambiguous, it seems the paint must cure for 7 days prior to starting the heat cycles.... I doubt people wait 7 days.... well I'm gonna!! here's the same pipe as pictured above in flat black; and again after a quick buff (after drying 4hours) with a wool sock! will buff again in 7 days
