I know you blew by, but I lifted a few seconds before that...had a visual image of piling into all my buddies on the side of the road.. LOL, No, I was redlining it thru the gears, interesting tho' that it was stuttering a little at the redline. I was slowly reeling you in on the way back but your 400 is really quick. I know I can get you on braking though, for whatever reason my stock caliper / master set up is the Dogs bollocks... SoupD.

Excellent report Mark, sounds like it was worth the cost. Did you find out why you lost your lights on Saturday? Did a full check of the electrical system, everything checked out ok, the reason for the complete loss of power on Saturday remains a complete mystery.. For the first time this year my bike ran teats! I guess the jetting I currently have likes 30 deg. weather...lol Even with the drilled out mains, she was running very nice. Soup, what sort of feedback did Craig give you? Any Did he have sensors to give feedback on richness/ leanness at different rpm's and throttle position? He did not hook any sensors up to do any exhaust gas analysis, etc, but I would not be surprised if he has them available. I'm pretty sure that I saw one chart on the wall that had some information on fuel / air ratios through the rev range. Craig said if he gets time he may log on & add his comments to the thread.. Other than that give him a call, he's really helpful. SoupD.

that's cool so it made 40 hp at 7500rpm and with the right jetting it should make around 50hp at 9000rpm cool. how much hp does he think is lost in the drive train? oh and that dip in the rpm at 5000 is because of the porting all the engines do it the 250,350,400,500 and 750 its the port design. Craig estimated a 15% loss through the drive train, with this in mind my motor is currently making around 46 HP. Craig thinks Mama Kaw's original 42 HP claim is at the crankshaft. He also said that it should not be too hard to tweak the porting (particularly the exhaust & transfers) to allow the motor to breathe a little easier & make more power. SoupD.

I sure will give him a call... As soon as I can sort out a free Saturday for the dirty deed. To be honest, the HP numbers are nice for bench racing but what I"m really interested in is feedback on jetting.

good luck, 2 stroke oil trashes the sensors, and they are 400 a pop last I heard. Guys here would not do it.....

ya and i think mama Kawasaki exaggerated a whole lot to.read two different reports one said 38 another said 40. same engine with stock pipe dimensions all i could get was 34.2hp out of it. so take off 15 %and it makes 29.7 hp so soups Reading somewhere that it made 28 rwhp stock is probably correct.

Cool info! I would think that Kawasaki was using gross HP figures back then. I know Mopar used gross figures until 1972 when they switched to net figures. And since the 70s were really the start of the true crotch rocket wars it would make sense that Kawasaki would want the HP figures to be as "generous" as possible.

That looks like the graph I remember seeing JA... Thought it would be interesting to produce a chart comparing stock dyno to WTF dyno numbers. Conclusion: Get the knife into your piggy bank to fund a set of WTF's... ;D SoupD.

i tweaked the numbers for the simulator and have the same power curve as your dyno sheet only 15% higher. the pipe makes peak power of 50 hp at 9000rpm. so now i can make port changes, carb changes ignition and jetting. and know exact hp gains or losses.
