Another day of clueless wrenching. So far I've tried: New plugs - no change Swapped carbs - no change Swapped ignition "A" box - no change Run without air filters - no change Swapped rectifier - not rectified New gas - no change I haven't switched coils yet because the problem has changed a little. Now the overall spark seems weak. The bike is way harder to start than normal (used to be 1 or 2 kicks), it revs to the moon in neutral, but sputters and misses under load. I'm convinced it's not fuel or mechanical, so what more is there to check with electrical? What does the "B" box do? Could the stator output be low? How does one check this stuff?

It was the stator. The screws were loose ( the ones that hold the stator to the housing} the whole mess was moving around (to the point where the rotor damaged the pick ups). I cleaned it, sanded the contacts a little, put in three new screws..2 kicks an dshe's runnin' smooth again. Crazy stuff.
Thanks to all for suggestions..now, off to put the "donor" bike together again..merde!

And the cool thing is..if all the sparks work, you can ride it like a unicycle!
