Picked up the bike from Craig in Brantford Wednesday, been working like an idiot ever since (last week with this company...new job coming...that's a different subject...details to come...) Just have a 'short' list of things to do before I hit the track. Chamber springs, a couple of wheelie bar bolts...but the most important thing....setting up this stoopid slider clutch!! I'm going to try to set it up close on the street...piss off the neighours probably, then sneek up to Grand Bend Motorplex during the week. I used to be the announcer there, and know the manager and owners pretty well. I want to make a few blasts down the track, no lites or timing needed, just to get the feel before spending $$ on an official test and tune. Oh, many thanks to Craig at Racers Choice and Roland at Chrome-It.. Both did excellent work!! Special thanks to Roland for offering a complete sponsorship for next year, and thousands of dollars. I think he was drinking when he said that....or that's what I heard when I was drunk....more likely the latter!!! ;D Gary

If Norwalk is half the show Atco New Jersey was last year,I've gotta say hold on to your hats.Atco was great and Norwalk will probably be running twice as many triples. Can't wait. ;D

Been doing some tinkering the past few daze...
Had to take the outer cover off the stoopid slider...have the inside machined a bit more, the studs on the inside unit were rubbing...creating a nice aluminumy sheen on the internal parts. Change the oil, clean as much as possible....
Got the wheelie bar on, upper engine mount, re-tighten the ignition side cover....stare at it......drink beer....
Starts great, idles....fixed the throttle so the carbs open all the way....
Funnyish thing, with the Dyna ignition, it has a tendency to allow the motor to run backwards!!! Fired it up...put it in gear....put the front wheel to the van bumper...slowly twist the throttle...and it slowly went backwards!!
Way cool.......NOT!!
Called King Bill in Texas...he said don't worry...just make sure you start it in the staging lanes and try it before going to the water box....repeat above until going forward..
Neat!!
The slider seems to start to kick in around 3500 to 4000...it should be 5500, but this entails changing the weights on the arms, perhaps the springs, and drink more beer. I have the latter figured out.
I'm going to run it this Saturday at St. Thomas Dragway...they have a 'test and tune' from 6 to 10 pm. Going to get there a bit earlier to see if I can sneak on to the track.
It should leave lazy at that R.P.M.....but it's a start. Just want to get a little seat time and see what falls off after the 1/4 mile. (hopefully nothing....including me!)
Mite spend some time after that changing the clutch weights, but the plan is to 'run what you brung' at Norwalk. If it's 10 sec...so be it. The winter is going to be long so I'll have lotza time to tinker..
Oh...Walms...never took you out for a beer....your work neighbourhood is a little 'foreign' to me....If I went to a bar there, I wouldn't be able to speak the language.

Just going to St. Thomas Saturday for a test...
Don't want anyone having to make that trip for, perhaps, nothing.
The BIG one is Norwalk Ohio Oct. 11-12.
I'm going, Craig is too, only he tells me he's just racing his 'Bandit'.
Mite do either Grand Bend or St.Thomas again the 4th or 5th of October....this weekend will tell the tale!

Going to put the test on hold for a day....still got a smallish list of things to do. Talked to the owner of the dragstrip (an old friend) and told him I was thinking about tonite (Sat) and he suggested Sunday...$30 and all the passes you want. I figured that would be better than going to the track today to race after 6pm, since it's getting dark earlier. I was going to be fixed, loaded and ready for today, but I got loaded yesterday...played golf for the first time this year....61 on the front nine, 45 on the back. I can't do much 'till alcohol kicks in..and it kicked in just a bit too hard to do anything other than drool last nite. I don't trust myself with sharp objects at times. Also worked today 'till noon, and I'm in DESPERATE need of a nap...(not an age thing... ) So...no report until Sunday...Sunday late I hope, if it's early, something broke!! Gary

I posted this on the 'Brit' forum too...
Stoopi Slider Clutch....
More on that to follow...
Took the racer to a local track Sunday...St. Thomas Dragway...or as we call it...the 'dirtway'...
It's pretty lumpy, in fact they race the fast 'Bracket One' cars 1/8 only...because of the short shut down and a few 'waves' in the track near the end. The bikes....no problem, 1/4 mile...we're expendable!!
Went by myself, Deb said she had to clean the house...looked no different when I got home..Entered just the 'test and tune'...$30...not a bad price, it's only 1 hour from my house towing the little trailer with the bike...and only a 12 pack of beer.
Pitted with the other bikes, only about a dozen or so entered that day...and I knew at least 1/2 of them from years gone by! Almost like old times. Funny tho, the 'old' racers from years gone by with their Z1's, GS's and the like, have gone to either 'Busas or Ninja street bikes...one buddy said he paid less that $12,000 for his Busa...bought an extended warranty for another 5 years for $800, put a pipe and power comander on it (?) and rides it every day on the street and races it on the weekends. He was only running 9:50's @ 140+ MPH...seemed upset...(?)
They helped me get the bike off the trailer...a good crowd was gathered, about 6 people came over to say 'they used to have one of those'...not unexpected....pulled on 2 of the 3 chokes....2nd kick...wack!!! Pushed the chokes off...idle at a thousandish RPM...more people gathered....a couple of 9 grand wacks....they left!!
Check airshifter pressure...lotza fuel....suit up...I remembered everything....1st surprise......and get into the staging lanes behind the Junior Dragsters....fitting...
Now, my plan 'was' to just take it easy...leave light, and just make sure the air shift worked, get the feel of the bike since I've never drived it, not even in front of the house (which I'll do this week). Drove around the water box rite to the start line...told the starter in advance 'first time out', so I could go by my self.
Tested the slider on the way up...Hey in moves!! Good beginning....Got staged...lites come down...no big deal this is just a test...Green is on...nailed it....bog...no super bog...fart...fart..........HOLY CRAP!!!!
The thing took off like I was hit by a truck!!...A bit late on the time sheet tho..
60'...........2.359 1/8 mile..7.662 1/8 mph..106.62 1/4 mile..11.4941 1/4 mph 123.56
What a ride!! (once it kicked in)
Drove it back....figured out how to get it rolling and flip the switch to full clutch...no biggee..
Fuel up, air up (it only used 9 pounds of air, actually nitrogen, to start and shift...bonus!!
I figured this time I'll do a burn out, clean the motor, and wail it off the starting line. Into the water box, brought it up....hummm...nothing...then all of a sudden SCREAM!!!
That should have told me the bottom line. Staged...brought the revs up as far as I could....green lite...BOG.....BOG....Putt......Puttt............Holy F^&*........same thing....
60'.............2.394 1/8 mile....7.802 1/8 mph....103.91 1/4 mile.....11.6619 1/4 mph.....123.33
It seems with the clutch engaging at about 4 thousand...or less, the motor doesn't respond. DUH....everyone told me that, but I/we Craig and I set the stoopid slider up the way it came, assuming (wrongly) the not a very nice person who sold it to me knew what he was doing. The piece of shit has been a nitemare from day one...he's not around for any technical advice...and the workmanship is/was crap. I've spent an extra $400 to get it to work....like this!!
I'm not in panic mode tho...I obviously have way too much weight on the arms, easy fix, but not at the dragstrip Sunday...I'll do that this week and go to my local track Friday or Saturday...maybe Sunday...or all three, which was closed this past weekend so the members could race at their bracket national event in Pittsburg....(who would want to go there!!!)
Everyone who has seen the porting of my cylinders told me that they're 'peaky'....gonna need a lot of rpm's to make them work...this past weekend proved them right. The HFF factor was 91%. (Holy F*%$ Factor)
I'm still planning on racing at Norwalk...have the motel booked....I'm just hoping I not a $ donor...maybe a $ winner!!
This next weekend will tell!!

Great report Gary..as I read it I was visualizing you with no helmet on and your hair blowing in the wind; eyes bugged out like Rodney Dangerfield -- since there's a slider clutch, do you have to put down your beer to make a pass?
