cutting the slide is a one way trip This is true - but I have seen posts in the past where folks have put the slides in a lathe and whipped off ~ .030" from the bottom - as LC has suggested. Apparently this works well and it may not be worth worrying about the angle thing.

I found some in England but $245. Not appealing to my cheapness.

I have 3 #2 slides somewhere. I can tell you the bike will run very rich. jetting changes will be needed. I went back to the 2.5 slides with the old needles and I used new jets from Ivan .or order the jet kit from Ivan. they work on 72-73 but not 74/5 models. The jets as mentioned are great but the needles lean it out too much on later h2's. mine now runs pretty dam good with some surging but it's livable

The cut away only influences up to half throttle only , not the whole range

That is the place that surgiing takes place I hate the surge. Right - surging was 1/8th throttle for me - or even when the bike was "backed off". The problem is that it occurred around town when you were keeping the revs down and trying to be less annoying. With my current 38's, I have the opposite - a little fat in the same throttle openings; but it is way more pleasant to be fat than lean... goes for my belly and the associated eating habits too..

I have a set of 2.0 slides on the way. Does anyone have a starting point or experience with this set up ? Needle position ? Pilots? I want to start off close anyway.

Since the problem lean area is at the 1/8 throttle pos., has anyone tried to go to a bigger and bigger pilot jet to drown the issue?
Fwiw, Mikuni allows up to 3 turns out on the air screw to adjust the idle mixture, which may be needed due to a richer than normal pilot jet.
