In the process of welding up an expansion chamber kit here.Was wondering if anyone that has had a set of chambers can tell me what they have paid to have them chromed ? And where they had them done ? I know it isn't cheap.Have several places around here that do chroming that we deal with and going to check them out.I guess cost isn't the most important factor.Getting it done properly is the key.But having some info on the quality and cost and where they were done.Would be helpful. THANKS

I've never looked into it myself but I know 2 board members who have, just to give you a spread for cost... Soup dragon got his chromed for $400 but he had a contact there plus he did all of the pre-prep himself. Mouth paid $700 at another place for show chrome and they did the prep work. Both of these prices are at least 5 years old.

Yeah that sounds like par for the course ? Thank the Chinese for driving the price up on nickel and chrome raw materials.I remember back in the day calling up DENCO after I got their catalogs.I still have the catalogs.There was no price list included.I called and bought a bunch of stuff.Regarding the price of the chambers.It was $200.00 for the Blackies and I think $275.00 maybe $300.00 for the Chromies !! That much more for the chromies ? OK I will take the Blackies LOL !! LOL !! Man now it cost $300.00 to chrome ONE pipe !! And after you weld a kit together and the kit cost twice as much as Dencos were back in the day !! Man I came so CLOSE to buying a set of KILLER chambers and was going to drive the bike around on the street like that !! I am sure people would not have appreciated the sound ? I ended up getting a set of baffled pipes !!

Check out The Plating shop in Concord, they are reasonable and very good.

The price will also depend on whether you want the plater to smooth the welds and fill voids with copper so the welds disappear, or just polish so the welds still show.

Thanks for the input.Will check out that place and several others.I like the look of the chrome on the original Dencos etc with the welds ( if they are clean and neat) fully intact and showing.The chrome on the originals were not show chrome.Just thick enough to cover and enough polishing and shine to make it look nice. Rather nor have the thick covering and high luster polishing myself.To each his own as they say.Might even just go with BLACK !! We'll see ?

I'm a mop n'glo kind of guy but if I wasn't, I'd probably opt for a jet hot coating (ceramic I think) The problem with chrome is if you damage the pipe, whether it's a dent or a crack, you'll never get the chrome fixed properly after the repair.

Ceramic coating for sure is good, it is tough and does not fade... I had a 4 into 1 header for an old Yamaha ceramic coated gloss black, and it stayed gloss black.

We carry the Kal-Gard coating that was used on all Kerker pipes back in the 70's also Ceramic coatings also

For sure Ceramic coat is the best way to go.Especially on a NEW set of pipes you can coat them both on the outside and the inside.Chrome is NOT the best coating and it isn't cost effective.Was thinking of a period Denco look for this particular bike, but will probably end up going BLACK. Ceramic inside and out is a partial thermo barrier and contiributes to the life of the pipe.

You shouldn't have to worry about the inside, the spooge will look after that. It is nice to keep them thin as possible to get that tang tang tang sound.

Yeah "that sound" must preserve that !!! I wasn't planning to coat the inside.Headers for V8'S we have had and built get that inside treatment.I am still going to visit the chrome shops around here to see what they want.But in the end they might be BLACKIE.

You can get a chrome look ceramic. This a cb350 hub, did the headers too. Fire ball coatings in Erin, ont
