Ok,this is driving me nuts.I was out for a ride yesterday, after filling my tank from a can again. After getting home, I checked it for leaks, and it was dry.I checked it again about 3 hours later and it was still dry.So today,I checked it and most of the gas was on the floor. This has been happening for two years.Last winter I changed the petcock and it didn't leak for the first two months. If I remove the gas lines, the petcock won't leak. What am I forgetting? I changed the float bowl gaskets, the float valves are new,I've checked the float levels many times. I just got a new carb from Ebay since I broke the float mount off one,I glued it up but wasn't sure it would stay fixed. So now I'm going to remove the carb's again. What do I check this time?Kawonda says his leak too.

What dimension and method did you use to set these?
The specified float setting dimension of the s3/kh400 Kaw is 24.5 to 26.5mm . This measurement should be set with the carb completely inverted as measured from the bare gasket surface.
I suggest you use the 26.5mm number.
An incorrect float level (high fuel level) combined with an excessive lean angle when parked will often result in the overflow issue you quote.

Whatever you do the petcock must seal, also if the bike leaning excessively then sort out the side stand, normally caused by worn pivot bolt, lug on frame or oversize holes on the stand itself

My S2 does exactly the same thing I think its leaking out the over flow but I did the same as you gaskets, fuel tap blablabla eventually I just gave up and started to turn the gas off when I was putting it away for the night, glad I"m not the only one with that problem

It's a good idea to ALWAYS turns your fuel off. An engine full of gasoline isn't great. After all that's why there's an off position also my s1 is the same way, leaky.

What?? The S series have an off position on their fuel cocks? I had to do that with my Norton but that's expected from Brit bikes. I must admit though, that mine drain the carbs every time I park them. The petcock doesn't leak beyond that though. Debbie just LOVES the smell of gas in the house..... Almost as much as carb cleaner.

Good point. Even with the fuel off those carbs seem to leak some. Even with lower (less fuel) then recommended float height.

Last year I had a center stand and always used it.It still leaked.I've set the float levels about six times and it still leaks.Draining the tank every time I park is no fun!

Just changed the one carb and checked all float heights. All three were higher than 26.5.Checked upside down. So now I will have more gas in bowls.Changed fuel lines too, will try to get them mounted to the petcock tomorrow, then check for leaks.

One thing to mention is it doesn't take much crud in your gas to cause the carb inlet to leak... That would account for the hit and miss leak you have as well! I found this out the hard way this summer! Normally I have always had inline filters but I neglected to get them installed this summer with the new carbs. The bike had no issues all summer but my last fill up before the Tweed rally must have been dirty gas because I had nothing but leaky carbs on and off all weekend. Needless to say, I had a filter rigged up ASAP after that, cleaned my carbs and haven't had a leak since.

I took my inline filters out, since there were too many joints to seal.Maybe I'll try them again. It could be awhile 'til I'm back on the road.

I re-installed the inline filters since there's snow out there now Now I'm soaking my tank insides with Evapo Rust I got alot of crap out with Wd40 special cleaner but not all of it. I'm hoping this stuff does better. It's been soaking all night on one end.Now I'm trying the other end. I'll know tomorrow if it worked.

I recommend short flips of the tank. Rinse and oil right away or it will flash rust.
