I got some new packing for my Dencos after painting them on the H2. So, the question is, is it a necessity to wrap the baffle with this stuff? Since expansion chambers are based on pressure and simply speaking, sound waves and how they are allowed to exit the end of the pipe, if the baffles are not wrapped, do the resultant waves bouncing up and down through the baffle holes without wrapping create a stopping effect on the exhaust which should be exiting the end of the pipe?
I am thinking about this because it dawned on me that I never did replace the sound junk on the baffles on the H1. Who knows, I could be, and likely am, out to lunch on this. That's what sitting around in a hospital bed for a week does to you.

The baffle is just a pressure bleed off as far as the function goes, the baffle cone is what re-directs the sound wave. As long as the back pressure isn't significantly changed, there will be no change in performance. What is the difference in back pressure between packed and unpacked baffles? Who knows for sure but my bet is unpacked has less back pressure and oil caked baffles have the most. Just a guess though.

I've heard that chambers with silencers make slightly more horsepower on the dyno when packed well with fiberglass than when empty, but I don't know if anyone has studied it in detail to really know why. I know they sound better with fiberglass.

Well, if they sound better, that's good enough for me.

I enjoyed a quiet bike when I was riding incognito earlier this year with new baffles but just after a 1/3 season, she growls like my 3 into1 Thin metal pipes, well baffled is my preference.

And again.... I want to run the gas out of the carbs before laying up the H's for the winter. Can I just pull off the vacuum line or will gas still flow by gravity? or, just pull off all 3 gas lines plus the vacuum?
Also, better to leave a full tank with stabilizer or partial tank? or empty? I don't want rust inside.

No idea on your Petcock but I leave my tank full with stabilizer. I assume the best to keep the air off the metal. Same thing for my car in the winter, I try to keep the tank at least 1/2 full to minimize condensation in the gas.

When I park mine I pull the vac line and try to keep it running as long as possible to get as much out as you can.

I use marine-grade stabilizer but still pull the vacuum line, run it down as much as you can and IMO that makes it harder for varnish/crap to form inside everything.

I pull the vacum line and plug it..remove the lines from the petcock as fuel will work it's way down and then run the bike until dry.I Usually have to shake the bike with the odd stab on the choke to clear the bowls

I add stabilizer to the tank, go for a short ride to fill the carbs with the stabilzed gas, and top off the tank. If the carbs are easy to drain I do it otherwise no. I usually pull the fuel line off the petcock on the old bikes to stop the possibility of the crankcase filling with gas. Also, I tape the exhaust and intake to stop air movement and also to tell me if any critters try to get in, especially the airfilter.

I fill the tank and go out once a month or so and run the damned bike..... Then its always ready for a rogue sunny day should one occur.
A bit of stabilizer doesnt hurt either, but run it through the carbs. Dont just dump it in the tank.

This thread got me thinking if there was a bowl from a snowmobile that would fit our carb??? Most snowmobile carbs have the tubes off the bottom of the bowl to catch any water if it was to enter in the system and keep it away from the main jet and freezing ,,, This could be a easy way to drain off the system ??
