Try reversing the pickup leads.

Adjusted the timing plate a bit and it fired right up , idles fine but sluggish bog mid range to top ,temp of all cylinders is within 10 degrees. is the best way to tune using of a timing light, or by trial and test ride?

I had one of those and was very dissatisfied. I had to cut the adjustment channel wider and still couldn't get the timing right. it was still too far advanced.

yes. I looked at it and it needed extension of the wires and small gauge terminals and, for that kind of money seemed a real pain. I haven't tried Jim's units but I don't think they need that kind of modification. Add to that the bull crap about being made to cover a wide range of pipes and tuning variables and i think, throw it out.

However what you want is it to fire at 25 degrees BTDC (3.45mm) @ 4000 rpms and up. This is your usable rpm range. Where the starfire unit fires at idle/very low rpms is not as much a concern. J
