After reading through Walmsley's "Ego Slayer" thread, I decided I like the idea of a "brakes upgrade" for my future G3SSE Project. So, like an idiot, I started looking right away on KIJIJI. Page 1, 3 adds down, I found an irresistible deal. Pretty much got this and a bunch more for the cost of a tank of gas: Gotta wait now for the G3SSE to arrive at the shop to see how this might all go together. I think for simplicity's sake, we'll just swap the whole front end from the CBR to the G3. It shouldn't be too difficult. We have all the necessary bits and pieces to make it work and we've done this twice before! The decisions will involve the rear wheel and brakes. I'm not sure if it will fit mated up to the G3 swing arm or if modifications will be needed to make room. The other thought is to use the CBR swing arm with some mods to it. Decisions, decisions... You guys have any thots?

Dammit, I hate when a guy starts a project 6 months after me but is already 6 months ahead!

As far as the rear goes, is there no room to put the Honda wheel with the stock swingarm?

As far as the rear goes, is there no room to put the Honda wheel with the stock swingarm? I don't know. There might be. I think it's gonna be tight! I suppose the only way to know is to wait for another week or so and I'll have the G3 at the shop. Nothin' like eye-ballin' 'em side-by-each! My other thought was to try to slip the CBR swing arm into the G3 frame. I think THAT would take some cutting, bending and welding! There goes my budget!!

Dammit, I hate when a guy starts a project 6 months after me but is already 6 months ahead! Hey, don't worry. You'll still probably finish sooner than me. My motor is gonna stay stock for awhile yet. You're gonna have the "rocket ship" in the engine room long before the rest of us! Yours is the "Ego Slayer of the Ego Slayers"

Well, with any luck, just 2 more sleeps til I have the "Pocket Rocket" in my possession. I'm bringing a selection of handle bars with me. Might do some simple wrenchin' alongside the rest of you boys. Make a little room for a "single"?

Well, the G3SSE was "as advertised"! Thanks Bob! I'm glad you're happy with it Drew and am looking forward to following this build.

Oh and btw, while I know that eye-balling potential modifications is not always (never?) an accurate way to access the situation, it looks "good" to be able to fit the rear cbr125 wheel into the stock G3 swing arm. There looks to be plenty of room for the wider wheel and tire to clear the swing arm and the cbr axle bolt diameter is pretty close to a dead match for the stocker! The only obvious issues to solve are the difference between the chain and sprockets and possible chain clearance issues passing the tire. They shouldn't be too much to overcome though. As well, the cbr125 triple clamps look like they won't drastically change the geometry of the front end. The last thing I want is to make the steering even quicker than it already is!! Had a quick look at the guts of the cbr speedo and it looks darn close to being able to fit inside the stock G3 speedo housing. THAT would be too cool!!

I'm gonna get a safety done as she sits, so I can do the transfer before I start making any changes. I figure it'll be a heck of a lot easier to safety in the condition it's in now!! That means I won't start the project for a little while yet. Just sourcing stuff, measuring things and anything else that doesn't require disassembly.
