Stupid question BUT how do you cut out the bike ? I tried the lasso BUT my mouse is shaky . You guys make it look so smooth.
No time to learn this and I get frustrated trying to..lol

No time to learn this and I get frustrated trying to..lol Hey Ian... everyone has their own preference and I currently use Gimp 2 instead of PS as it has all the features I need at work for the minor artwork we do.
Depending on the pic I somtimes use a mask or just the magic wand and adjust the threshold accordingly... in this case I just went old school and zoomed in to 800 to 1 resolution and then used the lasso tool [adjust the snap to level to your own liking].
The only problem you can run into at that level of zoom is that it's easy to capture pixels that you want to keep Once you have the raw image selected and saved, you copy it and paste it into your work in progress as a new layer. From here apply any number of filters to sharpen, smooth, lighten, etc. until you're happy with the end result.
Autosave and the highest number of Undos your system can safely run with are your best friend
Also, if you're doing serious work a proper graphics pen/mouse and tablet make your life that much easier.

using the pen tool create a clipping mask.. it's tricky but you rough out with straight vector lines. Then using the pen + tool you can add points that can be dragged to create perfect shapes. One you have a path then you save as "PATH 1". Then in the same pallette you create a clipping mask that has this path assigned to it. Save a s .eps and you can import it. Or you can use the clipping path as a mask to copy out the content. Feather edges can be added as well or drop shadows. Its a PR of a tool for a beginner but works the best. There are many ways to close crop out an image, this is generally the best but not the only way. II use it 99% of the time
I forget exactly where the "Paths" window is, look under windows , show paths. I am running a stinking press today so I can't go and look.... yet

Yes. Donnie is right, we have some serious PS gurus here at work, and they can close-crop anything including wind blown hair, using the stylus. It's amazing to watch because when you try it, it's remarkably difficult! If you plan on doing a close-crop right from the start, shoot your bike on a white sheet, then you can just "zero" most of the background out and viola, you're done. The sheet needs to be big..like a California King size. Donnie and Lou will need to sew up the eye-holes they have cut out for their Saturday night excursions....

Ouch Mike that sucks... not worried about mine as it's only covering pinholes and it's all still there after just under 1600 miles
