...well I hadn't ridden the H2 since Huron (kinda playing favorites with the 400), but Friday night I decided to ride up to Bracebridge. The bike is running great, 50 miles per gallon at an indicated 80-85 MPH all the way. By the time I hit Bracebridge it was 9 degrees..nearly froze my baguettes off, but in that air, the bike is sooo crisp.
Sunday is another story, I leave at 3:15 having seen a small break in the incessant rain. Small is right, I'm 10 minutes down the road when the sky unloads.. I would have been drier if I rode straight into a river. On highway 11 south I find myself in bumper-to-bumper traffic for the next hour and a half..never got out of second gear. Not only did the clutch put up with all that abuse, but the plugs never fouled and the bike ran like new. I was impressed to say the least. Once traffic cleared south of Barrie, I blasted off without a hitch. At one point I found myself surrounded by 6 squids on Gixxers and R6's. They were carving lanes until they found me, then it was back and forth looking at the H2, talking to each other..thumbs up, the whole deal!
Got home at 6:30 still soaked beyond belief. Hard to believe and old junker like that H2 can be so reliable. The 400+ mile round trip used a 1/4 tank of oil and 36 litres of gas. Even sitting in traffic, like a drowned rat -- I was smiling to myself. Only on a triple baby!

Good stuff Ian! I need to get the mileage up on my bike, the frequency of stoppage is a PITA, as you're well aware.

I think the best on My H2 is 40 mpg. My old H2C got 50 .. Old bikes are reliable despite what people think..Must be new school mentality.

Great Ian. The squids were looking at the fossil on the antique bike. Or was it the other way around? My oldest, the Norton ,is still my most reliable but that should change this week. Yea, and the glass if definitely half FULL. Dave

Funny, but I actually began to wonder if the rain soaked pods were helping to keep things running well.

When I bought Zambias old H2c it left me high and dry on a full tank 42 miles later, a little tweaking and I now get 70+ miles to the tankful The ride up to meet the guys at the bridge saw my stock 1972 H2 on stock gearing get 52 miles to the U.S. gallon between 55 - 70 MPH - if you can keep it off the main jet and feather it I have had over 80 MPG out of a H2 (at 45 mph)

According to my period "Bike" magazines the 74' H2 was good for 21.6 mpg.. . That is an imperial gallon, 4.54 litres. They must have been riding on the pipe ALL the time. They even got a 74' S3 down to the 25 mpg mark.. SoupD.

[/quote] I can't understand why bikes here have to wait in traffic lineups, is it illegal to ride up to the front of the queue? It was something we did all the time in the UK, one of the major benefits for motorcyclists, & not illegal providing the lineup was stationary.. . SoupD.

Yes, I saw that in Europe (everywhere). Here, if you put your wheels out of your lane, or even share the lane with another bike...you're busted.

that is a good machine Z... you've been everywhere. I get 100 to 120 miles per tank. My favorite part of that old monster is the Spinning Chamber ends rattling all around like they are gonna pop right out ;D
