Cool. You know what. Your methods are the way to go. These things don't need to be treated like a 4 stroke. Dwell is close enuff with an accurate gapping of the points, timing set. Carbs too need no special tools. 40 years of sledding and I couldn't find a mechanic who would use a dwell meter or a carb sync tool. Even a noted mechanic here on the board would agree 100% with us. A dwell meter would be fun to play with but...... a waste of time. I just clocked over 12000K on my B using the methods I learned from your site, thanks so much

Dave's bike might be somewhat difficult to get to run well throughout the entire rpm range as his pipes are essentially mufflers with the baffles completely removed.

Whewe you guys are too technical for us poor sales guys. I closed up the gap from a loose 16 to about 14 and then advanced the timing to 23 degrees. It is running better with only a slight drop in mid range. It's now just tweaking. I may advance just a little to 24 but will try this for a while. Thanks to all you techies. My head's spinning .
Off to my Daughter's High school grad. yes, a guy this old can still have teenage kids. They'll be there to feed and change me soon.

A "bog" in the 5-6000 rpm range ( in the higher gears) is well documented and typical on H1s.

^^^^ Or just go WFO starting in first gear and shift when it stops pulling! ;D J

told it like it is Jamoo/LC, good call !
got to add- Do you have a chian-saw KW? Try cutting a cord of wood @ 1/2 throttle sometime, it won't take long until you realize you need to be "on the pipe"

J ah ah-so and ah-ha ;D perhaps the op should retitle this thread to " I should bees tack welding some big washers onto the back of those POS, big washers with a center hole of about 7/16" "

Go ahead, give me the gears. I had it out today for a nice ride. Had my first unintentional wheelie at7000 in first. i'm going to do some fine tuning tomorrow because there is still a little glitch in the mid range that shouldn't be there. Then some more wheelies tomorrow. I put more packing in and my wife said it's quieter but I think I'll still win the givr decibel race. Obnoxious guy, obnoxious sounding bike. I can live with that. Certainly sounds good to me to hear it burst into song at 6500 though.

I changed the timing to 24 BTDC. It goes nice up to 3000. 3200 to 4300 it bogs and craps out and pulls beautifully above 4500. The mid part bugs me. I know, WFO but it still shouldn't be crappin out like that. I scream it through the gears to 65 mph and then piddle along there in top gear. Drop her down for power and she flies. Unfortunately 80kph is the local limit and it's ok to do 100. Maybe I'll try new plugs. Where can I get one of those carb sync tools?

The manual does not tell how to remove the needle jet. Does it come out? How? It kind of looks permanent. .. I know, dumb question.
