Inner Crank seal may be bad but that isn't your problem. More likely carb float/needle jet. So a float/Needle jet issue could cause this issue. Thanks both of you, I guess now its time to get my hands dirty check the seal and I think I'll pull the carbs off and double check everything. Eventually I'll be pulling the engine and restoring the bike but wanted to get a good idea what was going on with this bike first and also get this other project done, nothing worse then starting a project when there is a project on your bench that your rapidly loosing interest in.

You said it was an oil/fuel drip. Look in the valley under carb to see if it is dry. If wet, carb overflows will be in the valley with a valley drain to underside of case... that can drip as you described. If the LH outer seal is bad there will be oil inside the LH cover. I have had a leak at oil tank fitting that made its way down the tube and end up dripping under the case.

Good afternoon Guys,
remember we are talking about a 1976 KH 500
Listen I'm just double checking everything twice for another first start up (oxymora) I have couple of questions
head bolt torque, 17.5 ft lbs, thats what I did them at, does that sound right?.
I'm just setting up the carbs in the Green H series Kawasaki manual to set the carbs up for first start up, it does not really suggest a slide height only to adjust the throttle stop screw so it does not have any it starts to move.
Other posts I have read suggesting the slide height using the shank of a 3/16s Drill bit and that seems to make more sense to me.
as for the torque it seems abit light that is what my S2 was and isnt an H2 something like 30 ft lbs, I dont know let me know
This is not for fine tuning its just a base line for first start up.
Cheers Karl

Torque is correct. You will have to re-do it a few times as it heat cycles. Carbs. Loosen the cables. Set air screws at whatever they say. I think 1 1/2 turns and screw the idle screws inabout 3 turns. Start it and set the idle and balance the carbs by feeling the exhaust or better with a vacuum gauge. Then when the idle is good., synch the carbs so each slide opens at the same time.
