Ya doesn't need to use anything fancy or expensive !! Me and my homies have been using the same stuff for decades. It is so simple and readlily available and once you pack them with it,it will last you a lifetime.I recently restored an original set of Denco expansion chambers for my 500.I did the dent removal.Blasted them clean inside and out, and applied coating inside and outside of pipes.Bead blasted the baffles and coated them too.Got some fiber glass cloth the kind you use for body work etc....the thick heavy duty stuff.Cut to size and wrap it around the baffle and use making tape just to hold it in place to slide it in the pipe.Do not wire it or it will stick to the baffle. It works better than "anything" WE have ever tried, lasts forever, and is super quiet.Go to yor local paint and body shop supply and buy a pack of the cloth.Try it.You will like it.I did take a picture when we were packing the baffles.I will send it to Walms.I am sure he will post it for us.

Had some fun one evening riding back and forth across the bridge in Murray Harbor, with the JR chambers that had one baffle packed with an old tee shirt. Around 6 grand she would spew a trail of sparks out and the slight up sweep of the pipe was just right. kinda like a dirt rooster tail, but in sparks... Like he said, you can pack them cheaply enough with a lot of different stuff. Tee shirts only last a day or two however......

The FMF stuff works quite well but would need to be replaced on a regular basis, maybe 3x a season??? I'm not so concerned about the added sound so I haven't done any testing to compare all the suggestions... Probably won't unless the boys in blue push the issue. I can tell you that sound deadening material isn't always so obvious just in looking at it... Compare regular pink insulation to Roxul, other than colour, they "look" similar but Roxul is much more effective for killing sound. Imo

Thanks to WALMS for putting up the pictures.Much appreciated. The coating on the pipes is a high temp paint. It's a semi gloss.Which I like, right in between.Pipes really turned out well.Look as good as new pipes.Installed the pipes on the H1E yesterday. Now that rebuilt engine is back in the frame. The pipes are older ones with the short brackets so it required some fitting adjustments with aux brackets. But they fit well.Just have to put a damper on the side stand so it doesn't hammer a dent in the pipe. The chrome set I have are made with the longer brackets as found on 750 pipes. So they probably bolt on.Interesting to hear how the J&R pipes shot out the baffle out LOL !! They have that big snap ring clip on the end to hold the baffle in how did that come out ? Installing the DENCOS yesterday made me realise how well those J&R pipes fit and what excelllent ground clearance the J&R'S have.I recall when I had them on my 500, I could at least stay in the pack with my buddies cornering with the RD 400'S.That wouldn't happen with the DENCO'S.You be seeing sparks ? I am a bit too old for knee scraping now any how LOL.I was going to modify the WIRGES I have.IE: Cut them, remove the baffle, and shorten the center sction, reweld etc.But time is not on my side.Would have added a few hours to the project. That fiber glass cloth works very well.I don't think anyone be disappointed with it.Easy to install and easy to remove too.Brother Duane is just completing his RZ 350 restoration.WOW it is looking Awesome.Really looks too nice to drive. But that's what it's for !! Some port work and some pipes too,and carbs. They claim those RZ 350'S have over 60 HP out of the box ? I am wondering with the mods he did, how it will run next to my H1 ? Be interesting to find out.

Good suggestion there, acceleration, but too late for me. I followed Walmsey's lead and picked up some of the FMF stuff. I got the new, improved version that comes with 2 additional hp, right out of the bag. This stuff is a perfect sized mat to do three baffles, 18" wide, 6" per baffle, held with masking tape. Thanks all for the input. N.

Next time around wrap all the glass outside with tape, I use the wide brown packing tape. Make insertion a lot easier.....

Thanks for the tip John. This stuff went in very easy with just a bit of compression at the tip of the stinger.

The fmf stuff is the best way to go, but if you never want to do it again just use header wrap around the baffles...
I ran my pipes like that for a few seasons.

I have heard of people using header wrap on their baffles. And it works.I have a couple of friends that used header wrap on their headers and they told me it was the biggest mistake they made. The stuff actually causes the headers to rust out and deteriorate and shortens the life of the headers.Keeps mositure in casuing them to rust out ?.I don't think too many people use it these days on headers ? Most people get the headers and pipes ceramic coated.
