Could someone please direct me on some info on tapered bearing sizes for a late H1. is there anywhere for easy reference or do i just need to suck it up and do some measuring lol Thanks It seems that the same "All Balls" sets are used on all late H1, late H2 and even the smaller triples. Easily found on eBay, I just got a set from Jess for my KH400. Should be here Monday. link

Andre has them too Mitch. They are in a kit with races and all. I have used the same set in H2's and early and late H1's.

Yeah the all-balls ones seems nice but to have them shipped up here is pushing $85 by the time there here. Im convinced i could find quality ones cheap at one of my works bearing suppliers if i had the exact sizes. Seems Parts Canada is also a dealer for all-balls so maybe they can get them to me without crazy shipping. Ill check Andre's website and see what his prices are.. Thanks for the tips guys!

Mitch, I get mine from Burlington Cycle. He is cheaper than Diablo and you pay in Canadian. And, with the All Balls set, you get the seals.

All balls suck I won't even install them in the shop. There are other options out there, I am using timken in my race bike and the KZ I've never use them, Curtis. Why are they no good?

Mitch, I believe the bearing size is 30mmx48mmx14, top and btm, as like Ned, I get mine from my local guy, the set for my new build costs around 60$, came with seals and spacers. As far as quality goes, they`re as good as any, plus they come with every thing you need.
99-3503-5 you`d need 2 of these

You will not find bearings that will fit. The All Balls are popular because they machine the actual bearings to fit the steering necks. And I have used them for decades, never had wear or any other problems.

Fwiw I did a bit of research comparing Timken's to cheap knockoff Chinese versions... The biggest difference was the knockoffs were thru hardened inner and outer races and the Timken's are case hardened with a soft core. The downside of thru hardened is they are more likely to shatter in a high impact environment, making the Timken's a superior bearing. In a low impact environment though I'm sure the cheaper bearings would be fine. In the steering head, the replacement tapered bearings could carry a huge load, I'm guessing much more than what they experience on the headstock if you consider the balls they replace. The big benefit is how rigid they are... My guess if a guy wore out a set of tapered bearings, he had them preloaded too high maybe??

You can get a set at any motorcycle shop.30x48x14
Parts Plus performance parts supplies them at around $50-60 depending on the shop(part number SSK 100). I payed $51.

Granted all balls has the hype, but the truth is they out source and repakg, so really nothing they say holds water. I think price is the driving factor there. Steering bearings from them are OK, but I wouldn`t buy anything else from them!! I`ve read they source mainly from KML poor quality chinese, but the head bearings I got were stamped skf?? idk you pay and take a chance. I`m inclined to agree with Andrew, head bearing are of low impact, and probably any would do, but if one preloads them or over packs them too much they will wear out quicker.

Thanks for the information, Curtis. I already bought a set for my DT100 but haven't installed them yet. Because of your posts, I'll probably avoid them in the future.
