My H1E powered S1 is running terrible. It will idle, and if I manage to get it into the powerband it pulls very hard, but anywhere in-between it just bogs and is unreadable.. It was running ok before and just stared doing this. I did adjust the floats recently but it ran fine after that.. help me before I set it on fire.

I wouldn't say 100% it's an ignition issue, but if it is it would possibly be a weak low speed coil in the stator - is it difficult to start?

Clogged carbs maybe?

Needle and seat leaking and flooding cylinder(s) ?
Clogged pilot
Low speed coil bad

I have inline filters in it and it starts first kick.. even after weeks of no use. It did this once years ago, and the next day it ran fine. That's the only reason I think it may be ignition related.

I will take the carbs off again and inspect.

I found the opposite with faulty coils, the bike wouldn't rev out. Wick the throttle from idle and see if it responds or falls on its face.

Check your grounds, I had fought with a Harley for a running issue that I assumed was carb and it was ground strap

It could be carb flooding, but usually that would be limited to one cylinder and you would feel it. A bad low speed coil usually makes for difficult starting so I doubt that's the issue..hmmm

The H1E has only one magneto coil, no low speed and high speed coil like the H2 and H1D have.

ALL of the ignition components are common to both high & low speeds. Any breakdown of any coil would show up more in high rpm than low rpm. Sparkplugs, leads, rotor brushes, & ignition coils are different between cylinders. Everything else is common between cylinders. I'd suggest a complete carb clean & adjust. Make sure ground wire is present between frame & engine.

Ok, I cleaned the carbs again and replaced one of them (thanks Neil). I thought I may have fixed it, I had it out on the road and it ran fairly well except it has no power at around 5k RPM and its hard to get off the line. It pulls very hard in the 6.5k-9k range.
I didn't put the air filters on for the test ride and when I got home, it had spit gas/oil out the intake all over the engine and frame ect. I put the filters back on (UNI angled pods) and the same problem came back.
Specs-
35 pilots 105 mains Premix I forget what notch the clip is on the needle. WTF spec chambers Uni pods.
I am going to re check the ignition timing.

If running too rich, the 500 engine fricken dog at 5k. To address that issue, try dropping the needle. Hard to get going? Do you mean you have to rev it and slip the clutch? If so, you maybe lean on the idle circuit.
