I don't have the nice setup Ian (H2Dude) has for checking your timing with an indicator, I'd love to get my hands on one but until then, I have this $10 KAR indicator that seems to work well. I used a piece of muffler tape to extend the tip about 10mm, then I used a piece of 1/2" polyethylene tubing as the bushing to jam into the spark plug thread. It worked better than expected, actually rock solid!

It will be on the road as soon as I get my clutch steels from Barnett's... BTW, it's pretty easy to go to a 15 plate clutch as Barnett's sell multiple plate thicknesses for our clutches. 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6mm @ $6.52 usd each.

Your dial gauge is much like mine. Except I used a straw to extend it.
I have a Barnett clutch. Slips just as much as the worn one. I must have bought steels way back when too as I found an extra set of steels in the box's when I put my S2 back together. I slipped an extra steel in on the motor side when I put things together this time and it it all seems to fit in the basket. Have not tried it out yet though.

What oil are you using, I have a Barnett clutch in a 100 horsepower bike and it does not slip, ever. And it sees more abuse than an S2 ever will

Oilman, do you mean that you put an extra steel that mates with the basket? There should be fibre plates on both ends of the stack. Curtis, I was running a 13 plate Barnett fibre clutch last summer with 5 Barnett springs running Motul trans oil and I had slipping. By most accounts I shouldn't but it's there. The 15 plate conversion is off the shelf parts and hoping now oil type won't be so damn critical! I'm also using Vesrah fibres this time... I've heard the Barnett's are more likely to slip.

I've had the best luck with Vesrah fibres and Barnett springs.
