The A7 starts easily and runs/idles well. When I get it up in revs it bogs and won't pull revs. I thought it was timing but I put the light on it and it is dead nuts at idle and 4000. main jets plugged??

Best to focus on throttle position and not RPM. Usually when people say the bike starts and runs well but runs out of steam up top means that your part throttle jetting is not bad for now (needle position, pilot jet, idle screw) but usually at high rev's means full throttle. You sound lean so install a richer main jet and see if it improves. I'd continue to install richer jets until the bike starts burbling, then back off to the previous jet. Ideally, you'd start rich and work lean, but you are where you are, assuming it's jetting. At the same time, double check you have a good ground on your coils, the added pressure when a motor hits the pipe can also cause havoc if you have a weak spark.

The thing is, it's a completely stock unit. Air filter, clean btw, and exhaust. i would doubt, but admittedly did not check it, that anything has been changed.
It is difficult to say throttle position but, crack it open in lower gears and it goes OK at first, then quits pulling. way too early. instead of screaming up the tach til you have to change gears. I guess that means from 1/2 to wfo. This seems to me to be a main jet problem. assuming that it is a stock set up, can I also assume a clogged main jet? since most of you know that I will try my ideas first, I will clean the friggin jets again. When they are off, which is a pain on these rotary valves, I will make sure that the mains are what the manual says.

Fwiw, I couldn't get my 400 motor to rev out with stock everything and stock jetting, I upped the main jet and all was good. I'm not one to follow direction from what the factory says! lol In the end, I'd rather be pig rich than lean.

Dave..when My A7ss fired up it also ran well at idle etc.I would ride around then it would Bog and not rev at all. Off come the carbs..re check. I had installed new floats and valves before. Go for a rip and it would do the same ..Then one day I pulled it out for another look and wham it hit me. The right hand carb was missing the little ball that is pressed into the passage way. This allowed excess gas to flow out of the carb and it would be sucked back into the carb intake thus creating a very rich mixture. Find right size ball and tap into place/ Problem solved. Yours sound like the same thing

Thanks Ian. I will check that when I have the carb covers off.

No plugs missing. I went back to the A7 manual. Mains are 97.5 which are stock. Cleaned them again. No difference. timing is dead nuts with a light.
WFO bog and it won't rev. everything Ok up to half throttle. Could it be something dumb like clogged baffles? Admittedly, I did not clean them out.

Try cleaning the baffles Dave. Hows the paper air filter? The ball insert sits right beside the fuel inlet .
Choke hanging up maybe?

Dave, when it doesn't rev out, is the motor muted or cackling, poppin and drowning out? Im assuming it's lean and Ian is assuming it's rich.... Time for more description!

is the ignition battery dependant Dave like an H1B or early H1? Try turning off the headlight and revving it. or I would disconnect the battery and run the bike with jumpers to your Subaru battery to see if the symptoms disappear.

ignition is CDI like early H1 complete with the beeep. i can't test it hooked to the car because it only does it trying to rev while riding. Battery is charged and brand new.
I also assume lean. The chokes seem ok. It starts with it on and goes down to idle with them off. It chokes out when I put it on when warm. I bought a new petcock from Andre but the one fuel line, an original, would not fit on it so I added an inline filter from a snow machine hooked to a bigger fuel line to fit on the petcock. I will try taking that out and see what happens.
