Well I dried the pug off and ran it for a second with that plug out and grounded with jumper cables. Nice white spark. Timing is just set with case marks now. Was/ will set up with a dial gauge later. All the plugs are oily. But the other two pots are getting good hot temps on the pipes right quick. Now that I have the oil pump primed up I suppose unmixed gas is in order. While I'm investigating the source of the particles I plan to order in some fresh plug wire. I have new caps on hand. Whats on there right now is automotive wire. Not the right thing I know. In addition I need to do something about the carb spigots. To worn. Center carb is dancing about like a Hula Girl. I have some spares that look better. So I have much to do while chasing down the particle source.
Just a thought. If the side play at the big end was set up to tight. Could that be the source of some particles? I mean its more likely something I've done. But just thinking out loud.

The scuffing I wrote off before as some dirt getting in the past. But I wonder if we are getting oil to the skirt? I could see light through the little hole in the jug. I checked em all. Blew air through the case passages. Hmmm.

Looks to me like you may have a leaky check valve and you may have also hydro locked that cylinder and have a possible bent rod.. This is the ignition side ? so it's not sucking transmission oil correct.. Check to see if the piston comes up as high as the one next to it .. That's way to oily to run ..

This engine did get hydro locked. But the crank has been overhauled since then. Rods are different. Same pistons though. Perhaps its collapsed or deformed. Maybe the pin is bent? I'll pull this jug off and check all those. Don't know that I have hydro locked it again as I have been keeping the tap off and cycling the engine some before starting. But who knows.
Yup that's pretty oily.

Good tip though with checking piston travel. I will try that.

Im not a expert but can tell you from reading many post on this subject that you can't cycle the oil out of the cylinder by kicking it over, it has to be removed with a turkey baster or pushing the bike in a higher gear with the plugs out ..

The scoring on the back of the piston looks way to severe for just dirt. Looks more like a seizure at some point to me.

Ya the centre has a bit and the right has none. Both scuffed pistons are at the intake. Poor oiling? the kn's that were on it when I got it? I'm going to give the oiling system a go over. Anyone tried those repo pistons on ebay coming out of Japan? Price is like $100 with post. Rings and pins included I think. Seems to be a lot of pistons about lately where as 4 years ago there were none. As far as the scuffing goes maybe I got on it to soon after start at some point? Oh well that jug will come off tomorrow no doubt. Depends on how busy I am making a living.
My Dads comment was, "hell its not an aircraft, just ride it! Whats the worst that can happen"? He must have some life insurance on me that I'm not aware of LOL.

I have been checking out the oiling system. Two of the banjo bolts were plugged. One partially the other fully. Also there are some sort of Salts building up below and around the banjo bolts. I understand crusty build up in fuel systems left sitting for a long a time. But I would have thought two stroke oil would be pretty stable. It looks like salt or sugar. Anyone see anything like this before? Maybe someone in the neighbourhood did not like the sound of my WTF pipes and put something in the oil tank? I usually ride with the mufflers on.
