I seem to remember some one mounting a rotor on an h2 without using the key.Somthing about the slot being in the wrong place.(rotor of an H1 or something) I am putting together a race bike & the slot inside the rotor is in the wrong place for proper timing. I think it will be all right because you need a slide hammer to get it off the taper but do you think it will slip as there will be many trips to 10 grand. Any thoughts?

Brad Using an H1 rotor on an h2 or vice versa? They key them for a reason, but it sounds like a static fit like you described should do the trick.

Leo claimed no issues without a key. I've never tried it myself.

If your going to do it Id probly use some loc-tight on the taper.

You might better have the keyway cut unless you plan to play with the location... IMO it's just 1 more thing you'll need to adjust instead of just bolting together.

You could also pull the locating pin out for the signal generator and move it that way, lot less inertia compared with the rotor, mind you less contact area as well. Or perhaps just drill new locating pin location hole(s) between the signal generator and rotor.

Moving the locating pin does not work, I've tried.. You need to move the keyway to get a H2 rotor to work on a H1

In this case it's a Yamaha I have mounted a magneto ignition on.I tried to make my best guess. & cut a keyway.As it turns out when I time it,it's right on the stop.No leaway.To close to cut another keyway.I remember someone saying you did not need one (must have been Leo) Its a racing mag & the rotor is much smaller than a street bike.I guess I will have to just give it a try without a key.Thanks all

moving the pin puts the magnets out of phase, that's why it doesn't work on the Kawis. Take some lapping compound and lap in the rotor.

Hey Brad I use HPI igns from europe.Had them on my TZ350 and have it on my H1 racer. No key with those race ign . Revved my TZ to 12500 on a regular basis never moved .Dont worry , as long as you have lapped the taper . I would locktite the bolt but leave the taper dry as any locktite will interfere with the close fit of the taper. Steve

Hey Steve,I used the yds5 street cases on the Td1c & there are no lugs to mount the original 300 mag.So I needed to relocate the rotor.I will eventually get a better ignition but have spent to much right now. Thanks for the info
