It pushes up through the carb body from the bottom, the main jet is screwed into it at the bottom. I've been known to unscrew the main jet a couple turns and push on it, but a proper sized punch will also knock it out if it's stubborn.

I got a carb on ebay. The half circle protrusion on the needle jet is short, about 1/16th in. where the ones that I already have prtrude about 1/4 in. into the intake throat. This is supposed to be from a 72 H1. Can I use it even though it's different or do I need another needle jet to match the others. I can't get on to photobucket to post a picture.

Dave I have a spare with the parts I got Send me your address and I'll put it in the mail. You have the mid 72 on jet that is currently on the bike. The one you have now( E Bay) is for a 72 H1B . Used this 1 year only . Ian

The "protrusion" that you're taliking about is the "choke" on the needle jet - they usually range from 2-8 mm in height. It's best to have the same height choke in all 3 carbs. The difference in height makes a difference in the amount of "pull" on the gas from the float bowl.

Dave I have the jet package and will be in the mail on Thursday . Just squirt WD or brake cleaner thru the hole to make sure it's clear.
